Hard lessons earned uphill

Tragedies on mountaineers uphill always struck me as ” lessons earned in harsh reality”. Not to dampen the spirits and valor of the survivors, but negating the whispers of nature will always lead to disastrous consequences. And in mountaineering, this is “hard boiled reality”.

Two members of a mountaineering club in Quezon City died after a strong current swept them while their group was crossing a creek in Barangay Pundaquit in San Antonio town on Sunday.- Inquirer Net News 06-24-08

This is the reason why, at the slightest bad premonition about a climb, I call it off. I always trust my instincts. Dangers lurks where least expected.

(My deepest condolences to the bereaved of the AMCI mountaineers who died while crossing a river in Mindoro..)
