(Update March 25, 2010: Mt. Apo via the Region 11 entrance Bansalan Digos and Sta Cruz ARE ALL OPEN THIS SUMMER 2010 according to DENR Region 11. Read the story here.)
Background:
Local radio stations DXMS/DXOL news announced the closure of SOME trails enroute to Mt. Apo- Philippine’s highest peak. Legislative councils of the towns Magpet and Makilala, as well as the City of Kidapawan , all in North Cotabato, passed a resolution recommending the temporary closure of these trails to climbers this summer. (No online announcement made or linkable)
(As of the posting date, no directives has yet been issued by Region XI DENR, LGU Bansalan, or PAMBI, regarding closure or banning climbers from passing through the Bansalan, Digos (Kapatagan) or the Davao (Sta Cruz, Calinan) trails towards Mt. Apo.)
So the organizers of this event said this will push through as scheduled or until a directive will be issued regarding trail closures.
